Wellsphere

Does anyone have any experience with Wellsphere?

I got an email today and I'm trying to figure out if it's a hoax or not? If it's not a hoax then I am extremely honored to have been selected to have my blog featured over there. I'm always so leary of things when I get them in email and this has come through as a legit email but I'm still keeping it in the red flag spot until I find out more about this website.

When I first began my blog last July, it was my way to vent. I had no intentions of anyone ever reading it. As I began to find more people going through what I was, I began to post to other blogs and before I knew it, I'd made friends to last a lifetime. I never in a million years thought I would be selected as a featured blogger and recognized as a Top Health Blogger. In my eyes, I'm not a Top Health Blogger, I'm just a Mom with a daughter living with diabetes, in search of other parents going through the same thing I am and seeking advice and support from other people living with diabetes. So you can imagine my shock when I received this long detailed email inviting me.

Does anyone have anything to say about the website, good or bad?

Thanks!

RUN AWAY!!!
If you sign up w/ Wellsphere as a "FEATURED BLOGGER," they own your content!
There was a huge scandal and many of,Health Bloggers were approached.
Including those in the Dblogging arena.
LeeAnn wrote a good recap about her experience: http://www.thebuttercompartment.com/?p=1000
Your a wonderful Blogger and your doing a fantastic job. Retain the rights to your works and stay clear of Wellsphere!

I obviously second Kelly's warning. As far as I know, they have new owners, so I don't know if or what changes have been made to the terms of service agreement, but if I were you, I'd stay away from them. Even if your content was there without being compromised, their reputation is so sour, that you're better off steering clear.

Thanks LeeAnn! The email you posted in your blog was nearly word for word the email that I got. It did say that my blog would stay my property but I'm not gonna chance it!

SweetAnnee~ I have no idea how they found me. I'm guessing they link up through all the other blogs and I know my blog shows up on Diabetes Daily :)

This was their second attempt to reach me because the first attempt I must have ignored as spam. Both emails were from Geoffrey W. Rutledge MD, PhD and the first one looked like the email that LeeAnn got. The second one was a follow up to the first one and telling me how to start up.

Thanks again for the warning :)

They tried to get me too. But my head threw up a red flag and I started asking around. It was literally days before all the news busted open about them owning the words.
I'm glad you posted here first.

Hi Jill,

I'm afraid that the commenters are giving you incorrect information about Wellsphere and what happens to your content when you agree to participate in the HealthBlogger network. We have tried to make the relationship as simple and clear as we can. The HealthBlogger Participation agreement is public, and you can confirm it at http://www.wellsphere.com/hbParticipationAgreement.s

It says "You retain ownership of the existing and future blog postings" and "If you request that any of your Health Blogger Content be removed from Wellsphere.com, the foregoing license shall terminate and such Health Blogger Content shall be promptly removed from Wellsphere.com"

I hope that this addresses your concern regarding ownership. I do agree with one thing your commenters said - you do have a great blog (that is why we invited you to join the network!).

If you would like to join the now over 2000 other bloggers who agree, and have your blog republished on a platform that is getting over 5 million visits each month, you would be welcome.

Cheers, Geoff

Geoff~
Thank you again for recognizing my blog. I'm very honored that you think it's worth featuring on your site but I'm going to pass at this time. I have a strong network through the D-OC and the friends that I've made here that I feel I can reach out to others through them.

Thanks so much :)
