The results of the bloodwork came in today and I just got a phone call....

NEGATIVE for Celiac

POSITIVE for Flu

Thank you, Lord! The power of prayer is an amazing thing! I've been so sick to my stomach just wondering how much our world would have to change if we got that positive diagnosis.

Kacey (along with myself & Kayleigh) are all vegetarians. Everything started swirling around in my head about how much life would change and I've stressed myself so much the last few days.

As much as the flu sucks (and she even got her flu shot this year!), I'm very thankful it turned out the way it did.

**Update on Kacey***
Today was a good day! She's finally smiling again but still tired. She took several naps today (30min-1hr each) and she was frustrated about being worn out. I explained how much her body needed to rest to recover from all the throwing up. She ate some pasta and a cheese sandwhich today and kept it all down (Wooohooo! Go Zofran!) She's been a little more thirsty than normal but thats her body still needing the fluids. Her BG numbers have been fantastic :)

I went by her school today to pick up her missed work so she doesn't get too far behind. I had a chance to speak to Kacey's teacher, Mrs. M (Kacey misses her so much!) and I told her about rethinking Kaceys care plan at school. One of the things we were asked by the ER doc was "Has Kacey been around anyone sick lately?" Ummm...well the kids in her class and I don't think any of them were sick BUT every single day she spends time in the clinic where she is exposed to every cough, sniffle, sneeze, puke, etc from all grade levels in the school. This flu was something that was going around the school and even the nurse got it!!! The doc said we might want to rethink her care plan because with diabetes being an autoimmune disease, her poor system is already stressed and makes it easier for her to catch colds and flus. (Ugh!) Mrs. M said she was prefectly fine with Kacey doing all her care in the classroom. I told her I also spoke to the nurse and they are going to talk to the principal and see what can be done. Since Kacey does all her shots herself anyway, there is no reason why she can't just do everything in the classroom. (grrrr! once she gets the pump we wont have this stress!) I just don't think its fair to make Kacey go into the clinic and expose herself to every germ in there if she doesn't have to. Mrs. M said she would explain to the principal how dangerous it is for Kacey to be exposed to things like the flu (ugh! boy we know now how scary it is!) and she said there should not be a problem making accomidations for Kacey :) I have to go into school tomorrow with Kacey so Mrs. M can show her what work she needs to catch up on. She told me not to worry about catching up all at once. She'd work with her to get it done and for her to rest and get better! All her friends have been asking about her :)

Thank you all for your prayers, comments and emails. I'm so blessed to have such a wonderful group of friends here! You all are the best!

Yay for no celiac! Bummer about the flu- I know that's tough! Jada had the flu when she was diagnosed! So far Jada's escaped it (she had her flu shot) this year but I know it's still a possibility. Her teacher sounds just amazing and I hope it works out for her to do her shots in the classroom.

:) :) :) :)

Addy was tested for celiac in the hospital at dx and every year since...I guess I just assumed that all D kids get tested annually since 10% of people with T1 will develop celiac too.

Sigh of relief!

Just a FYI (AND NOT TO BUM YOU OUT!!!) Addy tested negative 4 times before she was positive last November. The ONLY reason I mention it is because we would never have known if she wasn't already being routinely tested once a year with her D labs.

No matter, the result was negative and that's GOOD NEWS :) :)

Bummer about the flu -- did she get a flu shot? Addy didn't get one this year because I FORGOT!!! (Bad Mom, I know...)

I'm sorry about the flu, but so glad it's not celiac.

Riley got the flu last year, even though he had his flu shot too.

I hope she's feeling better soon.

Jill....sorry haven't commented....a little busy this week...but I have been reading...and praying. I'm glad everything seems to be on the upswing now. I do hope they will accommodate her taking her shots in the classroom. Also...I thought it was really cool to get an emt who had the Cosmo...I'm sure that calmed Kacey down.

Thank you all so much!

Her teacher really is very amazing! I don't know what we're gonna do when she moved to 4th grade :( Thankfully she will be on the same hall.

Wendy~ Yep she got her flu shot and still got the flu. The one symptom that she didn't get was the fever. Which is good because when she was little she had febrile seizures :( That would have made me worry even more! I'm going to ask her Endo about doing the celiac test every year since you mentioned that.

Lynnea~ It was very cool about the paramedic with the Cozmo. She spotted it instantly and at first glance it looked like a pager because of the clip he had it on. It was an instant connection she got with him and he was really good about talking to her about the pump while he was looking for a decent vein (LOL! smart guy!) but what really calmed her was when he went on to tell her he knew how she felt about having to get stuck so many times and he showed her his arm where he had to get an IV just last week because he was sick...then he went on to tell her he didn't want to stick her anymore than she had to be and he promised this would be the last poke for the night. He took his time and marked the vein with a pen and got the IV as fast as he could. It really makes a difference when you have a member of the medical staff that can say "I know how it feels!" So it was very cool! He even told her about the diabetes camps and invited her to attend the family camp this year :) (the whole family spends the weekend together at D-camp and goes to D-classes and does fun activities...worth looking into for sure!)

Wow, you had quite a few eventful days while I was off traveling. I'm SO GLAD her test came back negative and that she is feeling better now. I feel so bad all of you had to go through the stress and scare of the ER visit - but it sounds like it was the best thing because they helped get her back on her way to feeling good. Hugs to you all.
